Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and other lessons from the crematorium. Caitlin Doughty

If you want to know what happens in the “funeral industry” as Doughty
terms it then this is quite the eye opener. Even if you don’t think you
want to know; you really should. The book’s treatise essentially serves
to highlight how divorced Western society has become from meaning
when it comes to our mortality and saying good-bye to a loved one. At
times it’s laugh out loud funny; certainly, it’s well written (I read it within
three days); but it really does show how separate we have become from
our inherent ability to meet our needs when it comes to death and grief.
Perhaps most poignantly Doughty asks you to explore how you would

wish to experience your own “good death”… it’s quite the question, but
important.
